Knee Socks for Your Reading Glasses

Here it is at last! This pattern is wonderfully fast and will be loved by anyone you choose to make it for!






Finished Size

Toe to Heel – 2 ¾”
Heel to Cuff – 4 ¾”






Supplies:

Yarn : Knit Picks Swish DK yarn, (123 yards/50 grams), 1 skein of Nutmeg (MC) and 1 skein of Cinnamon (CC).

Needle size: Knit Picks 24” circular needle in size 3 (for the Magic Loop Method- see the tutorial at www.knitpicks.com.)

Notions: Coil-less safety pin stitch markers, tapestry needle

Gauge: 6 1/2 sts and 7+ rows = 1” over color work. However, gauge is not critical to the success of this project.




Notes: This mini knee sock is made using toe up construction and a short row heel.



INSTRUCTIONS


Toe

Using the cast on that follows and main color (mc):
1. with the needles held side by side and with the needle points to the right,
2. wrap 4 loops around both needles.
3. Slide the beginning tail of yarn between both needles.
4. Do the same with the working end of the yarn.

Very carefully, pull the needle out that’s closest to you and knit the 4 loops on the opposite needle.

Turn work and knit the loops on the second needle.

Use a safety pin to mark the beginning of the round by placing the pin in between the last st and the first st of the round.

Increases for Toe

Round 1
Needle 1: Kf&b of 1st st. K across sts to last 2 sts. Kf&b of next st. K1. Turn.
Needle 2: Repeat inst for Needle 1.

Round 2
Knit all sts.

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 12 sts per needle. (24 sts in all)
End after round 2.



Foot


Start Color Pattern Chart A at Rnd 1.


Chart A






Work rounds 1-4 of Chart A, 2 times. Foot should measure 1 ¾” from toe to needles. Knit round 1 once more.



Heel -- Part 1

Using mc, knit across 10 stitches. Wrap next stitch and turn (wrap from the non-public to the public side of the sock).

Purl across 8 sts. Wrap next st and turn (wrap from the non-public to the public side of the sock).

Knit across 7 sts. Wrap next st and turn.

Purl across 6 sts. Wrap next st and turn.

Knit across 5 sts. Wrap next st and turn.

Purl across 4 sts. Wrap next st and turn.


Heel -- Part 2

Knit across 4 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up wrap at base of st on RH. Leave the wrap on LH. Move st on RH to LH. K2tog. Wrap next st on LH and turn work

Purl across 5 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up wrap at base of st on RH. Leave the wrap on LH. Move st on RH to LH.
P2tog Tbl. Wrap next st on LH and turn work.

Knit across 6 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up 2 wraps at base of st on RH. Leave these wraps on LH. Move st on RH to LH. K3tog. Wrap next st on LH and turn work

Purl across 7 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up 2 wraps at base of st on RH. Leave these wraps on LH. Move st on RH to LH.
P3tog Tbl. Wrap next st on LH and turn work.



Knit across 8 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up 2 wraps at base of st on RH. Leave these wraps on LH. Move st on RH to LH. K3tog. Wrap next st on LH and turn work


Purl across 9 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up 2 wraps at base of st on RH. Leave these wraps on LH. Move st on RH to LH.
P3tog Tbl. Wrap next st on LH and turn work.

Last row of heel:
Using CC and trapping MC behind the work, slip next (wrapped) st to RH. K across 10 sts. Plc nx st on RH. With LH pick up wrap at base of st on RH. Leave the wrap on LH. Move st on RH to LH. K2tog.

Place the safety pin at beg of next ‘instep’ sts. This is the new ‘beg of rnd’.


Instep and Leg

Using color Chart A, and starting at round #2, work across instep sts on Needle #1 in pattern.
Needle #2 – leave next st on LH. Use RH to pick up wrap at base of stitch on LH. Place wrap on LH. K2tog using cc following the color pattern on Chart A round #2.

Cont rounds of Chart A until leg measures 3 ¾ ” from heel to the needles.


Cuff

Using Color Chart B, work ¾” in pattern.









Using MC, bind off sts loosely with Braided Bind Off.


Braided Bind Off

Sl 1 as if to K, Place st back on LH - *K2tog Tbl. Plc st on LH with front leg of st in back (opposite of nusual position).
Repeat from *.


Finishing

Weave in yarn tails.
